Cake Smash Ideas

CAKE SMASH COLORS: Ever since I was pregnant with my daughter, I have associated the colour lilac with her, so I wanted to incorporate lilac into her cake smash session. She had a lilac flower diaper cover and a lilac bow in her hair. I also requested for the cake icing to be lilac. To add some variety, I had lilac, purple and pink crepe paper streamers for the background.

Little Lamb Photography said: I'm a portrait photographer in Gatineau, Canada who shoots cake smash photo sessions. I couldn't wait for my own daughter to turn one so that I could shoot her cake smash photo session. I put a lot of planning into her cake smash session. My favourite part was watching my little girl eat her smash cake. At first, she wasn't into the whole getting messy part--especially when her older brother shoved her hands into the gooey icing. But then when he let her taste some of the icing, she was ok after that and then was fine getting messy. She even started to paint the floor with the purple icing.

SPECIAL THANKS

I must thank Thimble Cakes for accommodating my request for the smash cake. I wanted the smash cake decorated with rosettes in butter cream icing. However, since my daughter was only turnting one and had never had any sugary products up to that point, I didn’t want any sugar in the cake or icing and I certainly didn’t want any artificial sweeteners. The exact wording in my e-mail to Thimble cakes was, “Are you able to do a chocolate cake with lilac coloured icing, but still sugar free? And by sugar free, what do you use to sweeten it? I want a natural sweetener—not any artificial sweeteners like sucralose, splenda, aspartame, saccharine or acesulfame potassium. I also do not want her eating fructose or corn sweeteners. I am sorry that I am so picky. I just don’t want my one year old eating that kind of stuff.” That’s kind of a tall order, but Wendy at Thimble Cakes wrote back, “Not a problem at all to make that pretty cake. We use agave and xylitol. Both are all natural sweeteners. We don’t like artificial around here either!” I was thrilled that they could make it without sugar. I was even happier when I saw it because it was so beautiful.

“Thanks so much for sharing!

I just returned a bunch of items I got at Party City last week. Instead of spending $15 on Valentine's I'll be spending a couple bucks!”
